  We can rough it on holiday and invariably filter my holidays by Price “Low to High” so we have stayed in some interesting places but the Roslara was a proper mixed bag.

  This was the first time we had been to Gran Canaria but we loved it. The Roslara is set very high up in the mountain side but this makes for some beautiful views and a couple of spectacular sunsets. 5 euros gets you a taxi into town, alternatively you can opt for the 25min walk but be ready for some sore calves in the morning. We were generally disappointed with eating out, the food at a couple of places we tried was poor but try and see there are a couple of establishments that were really good.

  The apartments desperately need a stack of maintenance and a super deep clean. On the surface we were surprised with the nice kitchen area and large main room. However, when we open the drawers and cupboards we were left disappointed. The dishes had not been washed from the previous group staying there. We actually found a used nappy behind the bin which did unsettle us a bit and not much time had been spent cleaning prior to our visit. We mentioned this to reception and despite all the staff being nice and friendly they did seem pretty laid back in taking action. There were several cracks and wholes at the back of the cupboards which, for me, can lead to one thing. Coackroaches and sadly we were not wrong. We see one under the small cooker which again was unsettling. We did not chance using the cooker prior to this as it did seem a bit grubby and certainly would not use it afterwards. We mentioned this at reception and unfortunately had to chase them up after a couple of hours to arrange for the flat to be treated. Eventually a member of staff sprayed the kitchen area and we caught the beastie but it did leave us uncomfortable.

  I know the negatives seem to be more than the positives however if we were offered the same price to go next year we would take it simply because the balcony and the view were fantastic and exactly what we needed. However, I would recommend getting a bottle of bleach and anti-pest spray and spending a short time disinfecting the kitchen and bathroom. We loved our break, Gran Canaria is a lovely place but if you have any mobility issues score it off the list.

  A wee note the Roslara shop is actually quite a bit cheaper than the main Spar or DinoExpress supermarkets although you are obviously restricted for choice.

  The weather was really hot which we loved during the day but the apartments did not have any Air Con so we never slept a wink. The bedroom was like sleeping in an over. We asked for a fan at reception but were told, very politely, they did not have any. On our final night we were given a fan without the stand which sounded like a Boeing 747 taking off and impossible to use as it kept falling over.

  Well situated within 5-10mins walk to the nearest shopping centre & restaurants and about 20mins walk to the beach - Playa de Amadores - also full of shops & plenty of good food. The apartments are basic but very well equipped for a self-catering family holiday. Swimming pool is very nice. There is some lack of privacy when you're o the balcony but it's not a massive problem. I hear that it is going to shut down from December 2017 for some major construction changes. Should be good. Maybe the'll improve on the privacy on the balconies and on the wi-fi connection which is poor at the moment. However, I would still recommend the place.

  You are a 5min walk from the Europa Centre with has a good selection of shops and places to drink and eat. The pool was nice to cool off in and again was very quiet. It is a salt water pool but clean and cool….perfect.

  Location Location Location – The Roslara (we were in Room 8) had a beautiful view of the sea and a great panoramic from a good height. The balcony made the holiday. The sizable space at the front of the apartment was amazing. The complete suntrap with two loungers, table and chairs was where we done a lot of chilling out. The sun hit us from morning to evening. Sitting out a night with a drink and enjoying the view made our break one we loved. At the time we were there it was so quite during the day and we loved chilling, reading and enjoying the sunshine. Previous reviews mentioned the set-up means that it could be intrusive with other people peering onto your balcony but we never found this to be an issue however if you had people above you or a rowdy group next to you it could be a problem.
